Free tools to help protect and maintain your pc

I believe that everyone should keep their computers running safely and smoothly. Everyone should have anti virus running on their PC! So I am adding a list of the free programs that I use to keep my 5 computers running free of virus, adware, and spyware. We have 4 computers in our home, 3 are desktop pc's running XP and 1 is a laptop running Vista. I also run my parents desktop that is also XP.
First I'll start with Anti-virus. I use Avast! Anti-virus, it is 100% free and easy to use. You do need to register it, but registration is free. You don't need any of the paid for anti virus programs that you can buy in the store. I ran Norton before this, and my computer runs alot faster and smoother now that I have that uninstalled.

Along with that, you need a good firewall. I run PC Tools free Firewall You also need to register, and it is also free to register.

Now for a few good anti-spyware programs. I have a few on my computers.
ThreatFire If you use the free version, it is a really good anti spyware, malware, adware, etc.
Spybot Search and Destroy Another really good anti spyware, adware, malware, etc.

A good free Registry cleaner I found is RegSeeker It will clean out the unnecessary registry items. Use with caution!

A good clutter cleaner for your pc is Ccleaner, formarly known as Crap Cleaner
It will clean out all your unnecessary internet files, anything that clutters up your computer.

Last, this is a good Disk Defragmentor. Auslogics Disk Defrag It runs better and faster than the Windows Disk Defrag.

You should scan your computers at least once a week with all of these, to keep it running smoothly.
